Shiva Shankara

from AHIMSA by POAMO

about

This mantra is an invocation to Shiva. It means: "Victory to the Auspicious, the Destroyer of Doubt, the Remover of Evil, the Great God!"

According to Hindu mythology, the universe originated from the union between two opposite and complementary deities: Shiva (masculine principle) and Shakti (feminine principle).
Shiva symbolizes pure non-manifest consciousness.
It is the inactive potential of this consciousness separated from matter. It is associated with enlightenment and represented as a serene being in meditation. It also is the representation of change and destruction, which is accompanied by the principle of creation (Brahma), and the principle of preservation (Vishnu). It represents destructive energy since it needs to destroy form in order to reveal consciousness.
Shakti is the vital energy that makes life and matter possible. It is the feminine principle of creation. It is the origin of life because it reveals creation.
It is through the encounter with Shakti that Shiva provides the divine universal consciousness. This encounter is symbolized through the Shiva Lingam, the image of the union between feminine and masculine sexual energies.
